Churchill Fallon Economic Development Region: The Shift from Agriculture to Economic Diversity

The Churchill Fallon region in western Nevada has long been defined by its agricultural backbone and rich military history. With strong water rights and a rich tradition in ranching and farming, the area has been a critical part of Nevada’s food and livestock economy for generations. But in recent years, community leaders recognized that agriculture alone could no longer support long-term economic stability or meet the changing demands of a growing population.

Despite its strong sense of identity and strategic location, the region faced significant challenges. Limited industry diversity left it vulnerable to economic shifts, contributing to the outmigration of younger residents as job options remained narrow. Aging infrastructure limited the ability to attract modern industrial development while the region’s assets—access to major highways, proximity to the I-80 corridor, and ample land—remained underutilized. Local officials and economic developers knew Churchill Fallon had the potential to be more than an agricultural outpost. What it needed was a clear plan and expert guidance to bring that potential into focus.

Nevada Strategies partnered with regional leaders to support economic development planning across Churchill County and the City of Fallon, actively repositioning the area as a regional hub for industry, distribution, and innovation. Developments included infrastructure improvements and a cluster of industrial expansion projects, enabling large-scale warehousing and advanced manufacturing projects, including Amazon’s new last-mile delivery center.

Together, these projects are attracting investment from logistics firms, clean energy developers, and manufacturing companies. In recent projections, Churchill County anticipated up to 3,500 new jobs by 2028. Beyond job creation, the work is also supporting local workforce development, economic resilience, and improved quality of life in the region.
